- 1997 Ford Ranger 4.0
Hey yall, could use a bit of advice. I've got a 2nd gen 1997 Ford Ranger with the engine of a 3rd gen 1998. I had it running and driving fine, but after removing and re-installing the intake, when starting the truck the engine would fire initially and then completely die or would increase in RPMs for a few seconds and then die even with my foot off the gas. Oddly enough the shifter is locked as if the brake interlock solenoid isn't cooperating. After doing a system scan, I saw my camshaft position sensor had been disconnected. I had to zip tie the plug onto the sensor because the retaining clip on the plug broke, but after doing that and even replacing the camshaft position sensor itself as well as the plug on the wiring harness, I'm still having the same issue. I even tried manually forcing the plug onto the sensor while doing a scan at the same time, but the scanner still spit out error codes concerning the sensor. I'm not sure if the brake interlock solenoid is controlled by the PCM which the camshaft position sensor feeds data into, so I'm wondering if this is just an issue with the camshaft position sensor and I'm not properly securing the plug onto the sensor, or if there is something else going on.
Thanks
