2014 SE still overheating

My son’s 2014 Focus SE was leaking antifreeze from the radiator and overheating. So I did the obvious first thing by replacing the radiator. It’s still over overheating after about 25 minutes of idling with the AC on. One thing I noticed was that the engine fan doesn’t turn on. I verified it still works by hooking up directly to the battery and the relay is still functioning properly. Looking for advice on what to try next. I’ve already done the following:

• Replaced the radiator

• Replaced lower and upper hoses

• Replaced thermostat

• Verified the engine fan still works

• Verified the fan relay is still working by ohming it. It was about 72 ohms.

• Made sure the fan plug was well seated into the fan receptacle

Anything else I can try? I appreciate any feedback.

If I got the right translation... Reads as: "Hello how you could solve the problem I'm from Argentina and I have the same problem"


A lot of times there is a return bolt on the frame - lover front LEFT side under the axle and battery that is tying the Fans ground to the Frame. So if you got the Fan to work - that usually means the integrity of that grounding point is good, but you might want to inspect that ground point, behind that windshield motor and container so that it's clean and not looking too corroded.

If you have AC can can turn it on and it runs the FAN, the AC side is working and also means the most of the Fan's own cooling circuit is working, This does not mean that you;re out of the woods just yet. There are two types of cooling fan wiring systems for the Fiesta that depend on your trim line.

So, look over this message and follow thru.

Did you have a chance to verify that the FAN connector can even get 12V from the Relays' socket that sends power to that fan? In both diagrams, that 4-PIN connector uses PIN 1 at the Fan to supply power. The 2-Pin Connector uses the PIN 2 as power - so if your not sure of the polarity of which way the connector is wired, check both pins on that 2-Pin connection.

4-Pin connector? Test this using Pin 1 on the Fan connector Harness side back to the Relay PIN 5. The results of that, if it fails the continuity test, is a harness issue and may thread back to a spot under the battery that has a cover on it that keeps the batteries acids from eating at it.

Else if you have a 4-pin connector - the PCM is not sending a signal to it, which may mean you have to replace a sensor located in the cylinder head of the engine. It's by the centerline where the Transmission meet's the engine and is by the Coolant OUTLET hose that goes both to Heater/Climate Control and to the Radiator - right by the ignition module.
