Ford isn't leaving anything on the table when the Ranger returns in just a few years. We were so pumped for the new truck that we went to New Zealand to drive the current one. We now have a fresh batch of spy photos that raise that excitement level to 11. This is the second round of photos of what appears to be a Ford Ranger Raptor. This truck is aimed straight at the new Chevy Colorado ZR2, with a beefed up suspension and aggressive styling. We're big fans of the current F-150 Raptor, so hopes are high for this one.

As expected with any prototype, the Ranger Raptor wears a good bit of camouflage, in this case caked with dust and dirt. It's obvious that Ford has been testing this truck somewhere off-road. The grille looks to be a little more aggressive than the other spy photos we've seen, though it's difficult to say how close this will be to the final production model. The fender flares hide a track that looks significantly wider than other Rangers. The wheels and tires are straight off the F-150 Raptor.

We don't know what will be under the hood, but expect a range of turbocharged engine, both gasoline and diesel. The spy photographer believes he heard a diesel under the hood of this particular model, likely the 3.2 inline five cylinder seen in the Ford Transit. We don't know when the truck will go on sale, but look for it after the standard Raptor's debut for the 2020 model year.
