Push button start wont start

Car will not start using push button start. Readout indicates the car isn't in park. Could shifter be bad? Because my car is in park!

Best to try and press "START" twice to get it to light up the dash.

Then while those lights are ON - Press your Brake Pedal - and check to see if the Shifters' little lock lever on the handle - will let you shift (Release) the shifter so you can place it in NEUTRAL.

Keep pressing Brake...NOTE the ORANGE (the HEC Display that shows your TEMP Odometer, and Shift SELECTOR) Shift selector part of the display - what gear does it show? It should be PARK. IT just may need to have the interlock reseated to re-engage the console side of this interlock.

Once in Neutral, PRESS START - see if it will start, if it goes off, keeping pressing BRAKE and cycle START BUTTON thru to START in Neutral. it should start.

If not, keep pressing BRAKE and then while the DASH is still lit up - See if the Shifter will still go into Park.

Leave it in START (Lit dash - you don't have to press or hold the button) then once you view the upper HEC display (Orange Mileage ODO thingy) should show PARK.

Then Release brake...

Press Brake again and Press START button, see if it will start, look to the Display and see if it shows PARK.

IF none of the above will work, then the shifter interlock assembly is damaged, might need to be towed or flatbed to the shop to fix the consoles portion of this interlock. It may need a new cable or a bushing you can't get at until someone whom knows how to tear apart the dash correctly - can replace this part.
